My anxiety’s through the roof State of everything is the proof Of many burdens hardly fair But at the same time I don’t care Because I fail to do enough But what will ever be enough? What a privileged state of mind I don’t need you to remind Frozen as the world is burning Every part of me anxious, yearning For a resolution to this madness Sudden closure or endless sadness I’m exhausted by everything I’m concerned about everything I’m grieving over everything Everything Everything Every cell in every incel raging Desperation in their displacing Guns and fetuses forced-to-carry Russia, Syria, everything’s scary But I know I really care And I’ll be sure to send thoughts and prayers Stay updated on current affairs Isolated in my despair I’m exhausted by everything I’m concerned about everything I’m grieving over everything Everything Everything Look away

Why do we always want to see you fail? Why do we always doubt your every word? Why do we always want to shut you down? Why do we want you seen but never Heard? Your concealer isn’t as good as ours To cover up the truth in black and blue Mix MRAs with public sentencing And you can get away with anything All sorts of strange bedfellows do concur We hate ourselves, but we hate women worse We hate ourselves, but we hate women worse We hate ourselves, but we hit women worse

You know it’s too painful to say goodbye Silence is contagious So I choose to fade away But I wish you all the best Like the fascist who says there’s nothing to fear I treat intentions as suspect Friendships fade like memories No hard feelings, no regrets And even though there’s no love lost What did we really expect? Silence is contagious But I wish you all the best It doesn’t mean the past was meaningless I still wish you all the best I wish you all the very best I wish you all the very best I wish you all the very best I wish you all the very best…

I deflect and discern Because there’s something to learn Misinformation and lies Because I value both sides And every crack in between And I don’t have to be mean When I’m enforcing beliefs Making people deceased And I get on my platform And I give them a platform Spreading misinformation That’s dividing the nation And without provocation Why the condemnation When I’m just asking questions And making deflections A right to stoke every flame For my own personal gain Cause I have no sense of shame While good at shifting the blame I’m good at shifting the blame Good at shifting the blame Good at shifting the blame (I’m just asking questions) Good at shifting the blame (I’m just asking questions) I double down and push back The best defense is attack My followers will agree I tell it just like they see And what they hear they believe No culpability Because I’m just asking questions So don’t you put it on me Cause at the end of the day I’m just here to get paid And at the end of the day I’m just here to get laid And at the end of the day I’m here to entertain To represent both sides To give conspiracies life To present a false choice To listen to my own voice Because I'm just asking questions Don't you put it on me Put it on me
5.
I’m so sorry for your loss Let me fill it with my thoughts We’ll say a prayer at their wake To reinforce my own faith Unsolicited and sanctimonious Too self-righteous to be erroneous So let the sleepwalkers be spared May you find comfort in my thoughts & prayers Let the sleepwalkers be spared May you find comfort in my thoughts & prayers Thoughts & prayers Thoughts & prayers...

about

Thoughts & Prayers is the fourth full-length, straight-to-digital release from the Bay Area's book on VHS, featuring Walter Campbell (NVS, Dickie Snakedick) and Karl Meischen (The Greening).

This album centers on modern day anxieties, uncertainties, and conflicts. Thematic are feelings of tension mixed with complacency as we await the next political scandal, global threat, public shooting, war atrocity, health crisis, and climate disaster. Conflicting with a strong conviction that something needs to change are societal feelings of apathy, fatigue, and complacency as many of us reach our breaking points.

Thoughts & Prayers speaks to how sympathetic gestures and public well wishes can be performative, if not hollow, sentiments more about finding closure for ourselves than their intended recipients, and how much more systemic and social changes come from actions instead of words.

Expanding on the Pandemic Pop of 2021's 2020 Jazz Punk Greats, Thoughts & Prayers abandons the sample- and cover-heavy approach of its predecessor in favor of an arguably more experimental but also straight-forward listen full of synth-heavy grooves, pulsating rhythms, spaced-out dystopian instrumentals, and sardonically poignant lyrics questioning American culture, practices, and values.
